God and Religion

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the type of which we are conscious in ourselves. An individual who should survive his physical death is also beyond my comprehension, such notions are for the fears or absurd egoism of feeble souls. - Albert Einstein

I cannot conceive otherwise than that He, the Infinite Father, expects or requires no worship or praise from us, but that He is even infinitely above it. - Benjamin Franklin

God favors no group. Only religions do that. - Bumper Sticker

Lord please save us from Your followers. - Bumper Sticker

I believe in God like I believe in the sun rise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches. - C.S. Lewis

Why can't we all just... get along?

"My deeply held belief is that if a god anything like the traditional sort exists, our curiosity and intelligence are provided by such a god. We would be unappreciative of those gifts... if we suppressed our passion to explore the universe and ourselves" - Carl Sagan

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent.
Is He able but not willing? Then He is malevolent.
Is God both able and willing, then whence cometh evil?
Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?" - Epicurus 341-271 BCE

"I think people, primarily those in the west, who say they believe in God actually believe in belief in God." - Daniel C. Dennett - Philosopher

"The world is what you perceive, and my world may not be your world" - Mark Scott

"I am one God and if you don't worship me you will burn forever -- I always thought that was ugly." - Gore Vidal

"...and it's important to understand that disbelievers constitute a much larger percentage of the population than religious people, and especially polically motivated religious people would like to think" - Jonathan Miller on PBS' A Brief History of Disbelief

[Note: This special awoke an underlying and unconscience desire to slap the religion out of zealots, because it saddens me that they can't just believe in themselves, and scares me what they might do in the name of God. Any particular religion come to mind when I say that?]

"I trust God. I don't always trust man. I certainly don't trust man's interpretation of God." - Mark Scott 2006

"All the western theologies are based on the concept of God as a senile delinquent." - Tennessee Williams

"God is the great mysterious motivator of what we call nature, and it has often been said by philosophers, that nature is the will of God. And I prefer to say that nature is the only body of God that we shall ever see." - Frank Lloyd Wright

The love you take is equal to the love you make.

"Only a fool tests the depths of the water with both feet." - African Proverb

"What you are is God's gift to you, what you make of yourself is your gift to God." - Church marquee in San Antonio

"A religion that fosters anything but tolerance for non-believers is a sham... at best." - Common Sense

"My God's better than your God." - a religion near you

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstein

What God must want:

  •    Get up off of your knees.

  •    Have pride but don't be vain.

  •    Give others the benefit of the doubt, initially.

  •    Don't be cruel to the little creatures, some day that may be you.
  •    Sometimes listen, sometimes talk.
  •    When you're listening, really listen.
  • Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens
