Apparently there was some fine, Florida acreage next to this fairly modern and forward-thinking church in quaint little Safety Harbor, and someone talked them into putting in 9 top-notch baskets with (count 'em) four tee locations per making this essentially a 36-hole course. Designed by local pro C. R. Wiley, Harborside (or "the church" as we call it) has holes that range from easy to monstrous. It's been open to the public for over a year (as of 07/06).

The A tees are generally pretty easy, but a few of them are still challenging.
The B and C pads are nice, average distance throws.
The D pads are for pros. I think we've played them once or twice. They're fun with partners, but don't expect par.
There's a lot of versatility, and the place is rarely busy -- seldom do we play there with more than one other group in attendance, if that. Since most other courses in the county are "shared use", this is a nice feature.

The folks at Wendy's GDisk store have advised us that the church welcomes the public. We've never had direct contact with anyone official there - the course is set off from the main church building. But we thank God every time we go there. What a marvelous use of this tract of land.
Of course, as at all courses we play, we are careful to carry out all the trash we might carry in. Sometimes we even pick up trash we didn't carry in. Challenging and fun! We truly love having this one in our rotation, especially since it seems the City of Clearwater is not making improvements on existing courses in a very speedy manner. Especially Ross Norton -- it's been pretty much a year since we've played there. This course is closest for our "north county" players, and not much further for me than Cliff Stephens. All in all we have a great time throwing the church.
18-Jul-06 New development: Someone has added carpets for most of the tee pads! Normally they're just dirt, indicated by numbered, wooden blocks partially buried in the ground)! It was starting to look like nobody was really keeping up the course. Excellent!
